The Sui
Dynasty lasted for only thirt years, but it was a milestone
in China's history. It was also an important point in the
history of pottery and porcelain technology.
In the Sui Dynasty glaze was widely used on the potteries.
The color was usually green or brownish. The glaze covered
all of the interior surface of the containers, but only part
of the external wall. There was some roughcast exposed. The
potteries were often heated on specific racks, there for we
can find small pits caused by the racks on the surface of
potteries.
This bowl and cup are not the best Sui pottery ever
excavated, but comparing to the potteries made in the Han
Dynasty, they are apparently much better.
