Pottery pot with celadon glaze and
chicken-head shaped spout
The Jin Dynasty
The Chicken-Head shaped spout is a popular
fashion for the design of pottery pots from the Jin to the
beginning of Tang Dynasty. It was also called “Ying”. The
handle was often designed as a chicken-tail so that the
whole pot looked like poultry. In the Eastern Jin Dynasty it
was a standard design. In the Sui Dynasty the shape became
much slimmer. Sometimes the handle was designed as
dragon-head or double chicken-head. The color of glaze was
green or blue, sometimes also used white or black porcelain.
In the Tang Dynasty it was still occasionally seen but
became more and more rare until totally disappeared.
