Bowls Made In The Yaozhou Kiln

Song Dynasty

The Yaozhou Kiln was located in the Huangbu Town, Tongchuan City, Shanxi Province. In the Song (960-1289AD) Tongchuan was called Yaozhou. It was builded in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), most prosperous in the Song Dynasty and closed in the Ming Dynasty.

The Yaozhou kiln made porcelains for the public, but it also made some royal utilities, usually in yellow color. The roughcast was gray, coated in clear, glaze. The color of glaze was usually green or ginger-yellow, with some small patterns like ice crack.

Bowl Mould

The Yaozhou Kiln used mould to create patterns on the porcelains. After the glaze was coated, the depressed patterns would accumulate more glaze thus had a darker color, the whole porcelain looked like a emblema.
