LongHuDou of NaXi People
The
Nakhi (NaXi) are an ethnic group inhabiting the foothills of the
Himalayas in the northwestern part of Yunnan Province, as well
as the southwestern part of Sichuan Province in China.
LiJiang is a famous tourist resort town in YunNan. It was
entitled as a world heritage by the UNESCO for its natural
beauty in 1997. When the tourist boomed, the LongHuDou (the
fight between dragon and tiger) tea has come to be know by many
people.
The Nakhi people use the similar method as YouYan Tea and Baked
Tea to make LongHuDou tea: the bake the tea leaves in a small
pot until it is yellow. Then add water and waiter 3 minutes
after boil. At the same time, they prepare a cup half filled
with wine, and pour the boiling tea inside. The alcohol will
crack and make a noise at this time. The Nakhi people consider
the noise as a sign for good luck. Of course, the taste and
smell of the tea is a super strong combination of tea and
alcohol.
If they change the wine to some salt, the LongHuDou will become
salt tea, and sometimes they use oil or sugar instead, then the
tea will be called Oil tea or Sugar tea accordingly.
