The story of
Dongding Wulong Tea
About
one hundred ago, in Nantou Country, Taiwan, there lived a
diligent young man whose name was Lin Fengchi. Lin was very
knowledgeable and strong, and he loved his mother country
(China) very much. One year, he heard that the government would
hold an officer's examination in Fujian Province (at that time
Taiwan was a part of the Fujian Pro.). Lin wanted to take the
exam as an opportunity to become
a government officer. However, Lin's family was too poor
to
offer the money to travel to Fujian. The local people knew that
Lin was a honest and patriotic man, they decided to support him
to take the exam. The villagers collected enough money for Lin
and promised to take care of his family. Lin was so deeply moved
and he swore that he will try his best to serve and pay back his
hometown people.
Soon after, Lin passed the examination and became a government
officer. One day, Lin decided to take vacation and go back to Nantou to see his hometown. Before going back, his colleagues
invited him to take a tour to the famous WuYi mountain together.
On the mountain, Lin found many tea trees growing among the
rocks on the wall of the mountain. He heard that the tea was
very fragrant and had many medical curative effects such as
diuretic, refreshing and stomachic. He wanted to take some home
as a gift to his villagers. Lin bought thirty six tea saplings
and went back to Nantou. The villagers was very happy to see that
Lin returned home after getting fame, and excited to get the
special gift from Lin. They elected several experienced farmer to plant
the tea on the top of the Dongding mount. The tea thrived in
Taiwan and soon became the best quality tea in this area. The
villagers
processed the leaves to WuLong Tea and this was the origin of the
Taiwan Dongding Wulong Tea. |
